What the heck is Art Office?
If you haven’t heard of us yet, allow me to introduce myself! My name is Carla Baudrons, I’m an artist in Iowa City and the founder of Art Office Studios.
I’m energized and focused when I’m around other people. Conversely, I’m easily distracted and hard to motivate when I’m alone. Unfortunately, as an artist, I prefer to work alone; therefore, I don’t get a lot of art done!
For years, I searched for a professional environment that could solve this problem for me, but I was not able to find one. So, I decided to make my own.
Art Office is a support system for independent artists, modeled after a typical office workplace.
Our mission is to help artists rise to a more fulfilling creative standard by providing the framework of social interaction and accountability needed to get there. Because a lot of us work better, harder, and more productively when we feel responsible to our fellow workers.

Here at Art Office, we clock in, clock out, take breaks, and chat around our virtual water cooler. We attend regular meetings where we discuss our individual projects, objectives, milestones, and achievements. We have open studio hours for the public to watch us work in real time, and we even have a party planning committee!

Not every artist is fiercely protective of their creative space, and not everyone struggles to motivate themselves. But for those who do suffer from this particular combination of stresses– you are not alone, and you don’t need to be alone in order to make your own art.
The word “art” comes from a very old root word meaning, “to fit together,” and “office” comes from another old word that means, “doing work.” Here at Art Office, that’s our goal.
Make Art Work.

That’s a great idea! Here you go ↩️
